Homemade Muddy Buddy's [Puppy chow]
here we have the recipe for a classic favorite snack across america: muddy buddies!
what is in a name?:
muddy buddies
puppy chow
Monkey munch
Muddy munch
Reindeer chow
Monster munch
regardless what you call it, it’s the classic delicious, chocolately, salty, sweet, crunchy, and snacky treat!
why is it called, well, what its called?:
from my extensive research, it seems the name originates from the appearance of the snack. the shape of the cereal coated in chocolate does in fact resemble dog food. also, purina, the dog food company, apparently created the original chex cereal back in the 1930’s and since then it was known as “human chow”. Isn’t that wild? did you know this fact?
due of the ease of this recipe, and the simple ingredients, its a hit for holiday parties, pot lucks, house warmings birthdays goodie bags!
ingredients:
1 (12 oz) box of cereal
here i used Barbara’s puffins but you can easily use most cereals, the classic is chex cereal!
1 (12 oz) bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup unsalted butter (roughly 1 stick)
1 cup powdered sugar
[scroll below for the “how-to”!]
how to:
Place semi-sweet chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter in a large microwave safe bowl
