CBD Oil

Myths, benefits, thoughts...

To answer many questions I have received: No I do not see any problem with the use of Marijuana for medical purposes, and yes I believe CBD and the other components of Marijuana plant are beneficial for many individuals.  I personally have been using CBD oil as a means to assist in lessening my daily anxiety - and before you get all revved up please read some facts below!

Here are the basic facts:

Cannabis is the marijuana plant. Cannabidiol (CBD), is the major NONpsychoactive component of the Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana plant). Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) the principle psychoactive component of cannabis that causes users to achieve that "high" feeling. CBD oil does not cause a "high" but rather has other beneficial properties. (See the brands I've tried below)

Benefits of CBD oil:

  • Helps relieve pain and inflammation
  • Antipsychotic effects
  • Reduces anxiety
  • Relieves nausea
  • Promotes cardiovascular health
  • Many others that are still being researched
  • depression treatment
  • Lessening inflammatory bowel disease symptoms
  • Helping with insomnia
  • Reducing psoriasis
  • Lower risk of diabetes

What is it?

CBD is one of the many compounds, known as cannabinoids, are found in the cannabis plant.  There are potential therapeutic uses for CBD which are being researched more intensely now. It has been used for thousands of years to assist in aiding many of the previously mentioned issues!

Is CBD Marijuana? Is it Psychoactive?

Marijuana contains both THC & CBD, but these compounds have different effects.  CBD is NONpsychoactive (meaning you will not experience the "high" or "stoned" feeling associated with Marijuana), unlike THC which is the active psychoactive ingredient in Marijuana.

How it works:

All cannabinoids, including CBD, attach themselves to receptors in the body to produce the effects.  The human body has two receptors for cannabinoids, CB1 and CB2 - these receptors are found all around the body but mainly in the brain! CB1 receptors in the brain affect coordination, pain, emotions, mood, thinking, appetite, even memories. CB2 receptors are said to affect mostly inflammation and pain.  CBD is said to influence the body to use more of its own cannabinoids as well as the activation of adenosine receptors which gives anti-anxiety and anti-inflammatory (as well as the many other benefits) of the oil.

My opinion:

I believe in doing what works for you - for me CBD has been helpful, whether its a placebo effect or the fact that it in fact is working, I am going to continue to use it in my morning matcha and recipes!
